TRANSIT HOME
Our brief was to transform the first floor (which was being used as an office by the client for his business) into a warm, functional guest residence for a 75-year-old CEO who lives in the US and visits India frequently for his work. We wanted to honour the essence of the building rather than override it, layering the existing Art Deco character with a modern, Bauhaus-influenced vocabulary to create a space that’s both rooted and contemporary.
The architecture itself became the starting point. The home is housed within a vintage Art Deco structure built in the early 1960s, which had been used as an office space for decades. When we first visited, the interiors were a nostalgic time capsule with carpeted flooring, mosaic patches, and original wooden window frames typical of the period.
